The Member representing Ohaozara/ Onicha/ Ivo (OHANIVO) Federal Constituency, Chief Nkemkanma Kama has attracted scholarship worth 60million for 20 indigent students at the Alex–Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu–Alike Ikwo Ebonyi.
Kama told newsmen at the institution that the scholarship was being sponsored by a prominent African Financial Technology Company and Mobile Banking Application, Opay.
The lawmaker while signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the company, said he attracted the scholarship to enhance quality education in the constituency.
“I discovered that Ebonyi was not accommodated in the Corporate Social Responsibility of Opay and this made me make a strong case for the state.
“20 students were considered and we have come to sign an MoU between AE-FUNAI and Opay for the ten-year scholarship scheme.
“The scholarship will be renewable and 20 students from my constituency will benefit.”
He noted that each student will receive N300,000 and we hope that the scholarship will achieve the intended purposes.
The Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of Opay, Mr Itoro Udo, said that the beneficiaries would receive the grant annually.
Udo said that apart from the scholarship, students of the university will benefit from the organisation’s innovations to proffer technological driven challenges.
“This will make them compete with other institutions across the country.
“We are deeply concerned about the lives of our youths and also how technology is beginning to change and transform the global narratives.
“I am happy that AE-FUNAI is benefiting at a time we are really committed to provide beyond scholarship.”

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu said the gesture was in line with its policy to offer scholarships for indigent students of the university.
Nwachukwu assured Opay of continued support in ensuring the success of the scheme.
“I commend Kama for offering quality representation to his constituents and urged the recipients to make the lawmaker and the constituency proud.”
