Four women died in a road traffic crash involving four vehicles at Agulu Lake along the Nanka-Agulu Road in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra on Friday night.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, confirmed the incident to journalists on Saturday in Awka.
She blamed the crash on excessive speeding and loss of control.
According to her, the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number HAL676YG, a trailer, a shuttle bus with registration number UKP274YA and a Toyota Hilux without a registration number.
“There were no eyewitnesses, as all the drivers fled the scene.
“However, preliminary findings by the FRSC rescue team from the Nanka outpost showed that a vehicle descending the hill at high speed lost control and collided with three other vehicles.”
Asekhauno said 19 persons were involved in the crash, comprising six male adults, 10 female adults and three male children.
She said four women lost their lives, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The injured victims were taken to St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi, for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue.

The sector commander added that officials created an alternative route to ease traffic congestion in the area.
She commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Asekhauno also urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid speeding to prevent avoidable crashes.
“Drive safely to stay alive; safety is everyone’s responsibility,” she said.
