The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals Zone RS2, comprising Lagos and Ogun, has emerged the best performing zone in Nigeria, scoring 96 per cent in a national evaluation.
The evaluation of Special Marshals activities placed RS7, comprising the Federal Capital Territory and Niger, second with 94 per cent, while RS6, comprising Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa, scored 90 per cent to place third.
RS5 came fourth, followed by RS12 in fifth, RS11 in sixth, RS4 in seventh and RS3 in eighth position.
The evaluation also placed RS2.1 Lagos Special Marshals as the national leader among the state-level Special Marshal formations.
The report attributed the performance of RS2 to its activities and leadership under SM (Pastor) Olusegun Akintan, Zonal Coordinator, Zone RS2.
It also commended the leadership of SM (Dr.) Olabisi O. Dennis, State Coordinator, RS2.1 Lagos Special Marshals, for the state’s performance.
According to the report, Lagos had one of the most extensive and diversified portfolios of activities among submissions received nationwide.
It highlighted infrastructure projects, patrol vehicle rehabilitation, equipment donations, public enlightenment campaigns, Road Safety Club initiatives, church and school advocacy programmes, training and community-based road safety interventions.
The report also recognized the participation of Lagos Special Marshals, unit mobilization, infrastructure investments, advocacy programmes and documentation of activities.
The achievement, according to the report, reflected the collective efforts of the zonal leadership, state executives, unit coordinators and Special Marshals supporting road safety activities.
The zone comprises RS2.1 Lagos, coordinated by Dennis, and RS2.2 Ogun, coordinated by SM Taiwo Salau Balogun.
The evaluation placed the two states within the national top-performing Zone RS2, which covers Lagos and Ogun.
