Gov. Fubara tasks corps members on skills acquisition programme

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has urged Corps Members to “take advantage of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Skill Acquisition programme to make themselves economically relevant.

Fubara stated this on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai, during the closing ceremony of 2024 Batch C Stream I orientation course.

The governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Hamilton Amadi, urged the corps members to initiate and execute laudable community development projects.

“Such projects will positively impact the lives of people in your host communities.

“I assure you of my administration’s commitment to provide you with adequate welfare packages and security to excel.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, commended the corps members for their “superlative honesty and integrity” throughout the camping exercise.

Oleghe enjoined the corps members to replicate such noble values in communities where they are posted for their primary assignment.

“I appreciate Gov. Fubara immensely for his uncommon love and support to corps members and the NYSC scheme at large.

“I also thank critical stakeholders such as the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Executive Chairmen of Tai, Ahoada East and Emohua Local Government Areas (LGAs) for their generous assistance towards the success of the camping exercise.

“I also urge other LGA chairmen to take a cue from their colleagues,”.

A total of 1,807 corps members comprising of 627 males and 1,108 females successfully completed the orientation course in the state.
