The Ezza Ezekuna Development Association (EEDA) has insisted that the Ebonyi state governorship seat remains in the north senatorial district in the 2027 general election for the sake of equity, justice and political stability.
The socio-ecoomic and political organisation made the insistence while briefing the press in Abakaliki, noting that it aligns with the existing zoning arrangement guiding gubernatorial zoning succession in the state.
The National President of the association Chief Kingsley Akam who spoke in company of the Secretary Comrade Uchechukwu Edeh and a member of the association, Professor Chike Onwe said the association aligns.that the north senatorial zone be allowed to complete its governorship tenures.
Akama said the measure had been adopted for the other senatorial districts in the state as it has built inter-communal harmony and contributed significantly to the peace enjoyed across the state since creation.
“”This is expression of a position that the leaders and people of Ezza Ezekuna clan has previously declared and consistently maintained.
“The governorship of Ebonyi remains, in accordance with the prevailing zoning understanding in Ebonyi North until 2031.
“It should be stayed that no reasonable Ezza indigene, properly informed of the history of Ebonyi and properly committed to its collective stability, would oppose the arrangement,”.
He noted that those who would oppose such act neither on behalf of Ezza people nor in the interest of the peace that all its communities depend upon.
“Political ambition, however legitimate in itself, must never supersede collective stability as personal interest must never override the peace of Ebonyi .
“Any conversation regarding future political succession must be approached within the framework of equity, mutual respect and established political understandings guiding the state’s politics from its formation.
” We reject any attempt to portray Ezza people as being in opposition to these principles as they have always stood on the side of justice which will continue under this association’s leadership”,
The group further endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru as its sole candidate for the 2027 governorship race and dismissed a communique by people in the state’s Abakaliki bloc against power rotation in the state.
“The individuals who participated in their press briefing charade, do not represent any identifiable section, clan or community within Umuekumenyi.
“They were not elected, were not delegated and were not authorised by any traditional institution, socio-cultural organisation or community assembly within the Umuekumenyi family.
“The positions they articulated in their communique are personal opinions and not the voice of any community, position of Umuekumenyi and certainly not Ezza Ezekuna’s stance,”.
The group according to the chairman, vowed to resist any attempt to subvert the power rotation in the state or present its violation as the will of Ezza clan.
