The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Habu Gumel, has congratulated the Senior Female National Volleyball Team on securing qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28).
The Nigerian team broke a 16-year absence from the global event by defeating Morocco 2–0 in a decisive encounter to lock in their spot for the Games.
He praised the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Musa Nimrod, for working tirelessly to ensure the landmark qualification.
Expressing his delight over the achievement, Gumel said: “I am happy and indeed excited that the team pulled this victory through. We are no longer a push-over on the international stage.”
Engr. Gumel, who is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and a longtime administrator within the global and local volleyball communities, notes that volleyball has now become the first Nigerian team sport to qualify for the 2028 Games.
The NOC President, who previously served as the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, extended his best wishes to other national teams currently striving for Olympic berths:
“I wish similar success to all other national teams working hard to secure their places in Team Nigeria’s contingent to the Games.”
