The police in Ebonyi State have arrested one of the suspects linked to the attack on the people of Amegu Nkalaha Community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Sunday by suspected hoodlums.

The Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, in a swift response, dispatched the tactical team of the command to the community with the mandate to fish out the perpetrators.

”During the operation, one of the suspects while fleeing the community was apprehended with the assistance of community members from Nkalaha and Eha-Amafu and handed over to Isi-Ụzọ Police Division.

”Upon interrogation, the suspect provided useful information about others involved in the attack, which led the operatives of the command to storm the hideout of the hoodlums responsible for the attack.

”The operatives raided the criminal hideout, as other assailants fled the scene, and items recovered include: three locally made single-barreled guns, one police uniform, a pair of jungle boots, a pair of army camouflage shorts, and a pair of combat trousers”.

Ukandu said the command is actively pursuing other fleeing suspects, adding that the investigation into the crime continues.

The police, however, called on anyone with useful information that might lead to the arrest of other suspects to come forward.

Ukandu also encourages residents of Ebonyi State to dispel rumours of insecurity and go about their lawful activities, reiterating that the police are committed to the protection of lives and property.

He reassured the residents that the police would apprehend the perpetrators.
