The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced the recovery of over ₦20 billion siphoned through fraudulent ghost workers’ pension schemes in 2024. This revelation was made by the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, during a meeting with media executives in Abuja .

The ICPC uncovered the fraudulent insertion of workers in some Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as part of its preventive activities. Dr. Aliyu emphasized that the fight against corruption cannot be waged by anti-graft agencies alone, stressing the need for collective efforts to drive national progress.

Key Highlights of the ICPC’s Efforts

  • Commitment to Due Process and the Rule of Law: The ICPC has adopted a strategic communication approach in line with the 1999 Constitution and the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.
  • Strategic Action Plan and Media Engagement: The ICPC is focused on delivering measurable results based on its Strategic Action Plan (2024-2028) and pledges to respond promptly to media inquiries.
  • Corruption Prevention Program for Local Governments: The ICPC is collaborating with civil society organizations to implement a program promoting proactive disclosure of financial, procurement, and corruption-related information at the grassroots level .

The ICPC Chairman urged journalists to work closely with the commission to enhance public awareness and amplify its programs. With the recovery of ₦20 billion from ghost workers, the ICPC has demonstrated its commitment to combating corruption and promoting transparency in Nigeria.
