Maj.-Gen. LKJ Ogunewe (Retd.)

By Chima Obasi

Like a gallant Fabian tactician, the resurgence of Major General LKJ Ogunewe (rtd) is causing sleepless nights to opposition camps in Imo state politics.

Following wide jubilation by Ndi Imo shortly after his name was uploaded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the Action Alliance (AA) candidate, there was panic in the camps of the opposition parties.

One of the governorship candidates who went to prison in Italy in the 1990’s when Silvio Berlusconi who later became Italian Prime Minister was in charge is at the forefront of propaganda attacks against Ogunewe.

He is joined by his deputy, a ”deflated spare tyre” who ran away with the money for federal constituency projects and both are now the main promoters of a campaign of calumny against Ogunewe.

They have accused Ogunewe of being part of Operation Python Dance; an old recycled story that is as useless as telling Ndi Imo that Sam Mbakwe was governor of Anambra state: a big lie.

For the avoidance of doubt, let me state clearly that from known indisputable facts in the public domain, Ogunewe never participated in that operation in any manner whatsoever: whether in conceptualization or in actual execution.

Ala-Igbo Foundation even took the federal government to court on that issue and never was Ogunewe’s name mentioned in the court papers. Enough of these lies!

By the way, most of the cowards who are carrying out this propaganda were in the Senate, House of Representatives, etc when this event took place. Where is it on record that they came out to condemn it?

They have also accused him of not recruiting our people into the army. This is laughable because Ogunewe guided many of our people into the army and does not consider it neccesary to blow his trumpet.

Let me make it clear that there are only two people who can be taken serious in this race to Government House, Owerri. Ogunewe is the undisputed front runner,  followed perhaps by Hope Uzodinma who would be coming a distant second  and the others.

As a matter of fact, from what we have gathered, Ogunewe intends to run an issue based campaign.

However, if the unwarranted attacks against him continue, we his supporters would have no option than to publish the photograph of the governorship candidate who went to prison in Italy. We have the photograph and the publication where he was seeking pardon based on humanitarian grounds.

We have the court details of another fair in complexion governorship candidate who was convicted for Advanced Fee Fraud (419) in Abuja many years ago. These ‘Guy men” without integrity are the ones launching attacks on Ogunewe and trying to pull the wool over the eyes of Ndi Imo.

There is no doubt that Ogunewe is the best candidate to become the governor of Imo state come November 11, 2023 elections. Ndi Imo  are tired of old, re-cycled and dishonest politicians who have deceived them since 1999.

They are responsible for the poverty and discontent in Imo state today. It’s time to chase them away with our votes! Umunna, Igwebuike. Let’s Reset Imo!
