The Headfort Foundation for Justice has provided free legal aid to female inmates at the Ibara Correctional Centre, Abeokuta, in commemoration of the 2026 International Women’s Day.

Miss Oluwakemi Adenekan, Senior Programmes Manager of the foundation disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.

Adenekan said that the outreach, which held on March 6, 2026, aimed to support vulnerable women and strengthen access to justice within the correctional system.

According to her, the initiative aligns with the 2026 International Women’s Day theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.”

“During the visit, the Foundation’s legal team offered free legal advice to several inmates, helping them understand their legal rights and the processes surrounding their cases.

“The team also documented cases of inmates unable to afford legal representation and pledged to provide pro bono legal services to support their pursuit of justice,” Adenekan said.

She said the intervention was part of the foundation’s commitment to ensuring women were not denied fair representation due to financial constraints.

She reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to promoting access to justice and protecting the rights and dignity of women and girls.
