Labour Party gubernatorial aspirant Maj.-Gen. Lincoln Jack Ogunewe (Rtd) has sued for peace and calm over the rising insecurity in Imo state.

“I call on all Imolites and the government to condemn the killings and destruction going on in the state.

“Enough of the destruction and killings in the state. Imo belongs to all of us,” the retired Army General made the call recently in Owerri.

Ogunewe, a former Nigerian Defence Adviser to the United Nation wondered how once a peaceful and prosperous state could be turned into a theatre of war.

He enjoined law enforcement agencies to look deep and find the root cause of the insecurity in the state with a view to reducing it to the barest minimum.

“No development can thrive on the toes of insecurity. Resort to jungle justice will rather exacerbate than ameliorate the insecurity in the state,” the Army General said.

He therefore urged all stakeholders in the fight against insecurity in the state to be professional, reduce high handedness and use of force.

Ogunewe also cautioned all especially the youths to remain calm and prayerful, no matter the provocation as he stated that before the law, illegality cannot be used to fight illegality.

“There are legal ways and means of resolving conflicts, which is the negotiating table.

“We all should embrace this approach at all levels for peace to reign in Imo state,” he said.
