The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has deployed 10 new compactor trucks to improve waste evacuation across Lagos State, strengthening its fleet and expanding waste collection services.
LAWMA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, thanked the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) for donating the trucks.
He said the donation showed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to better public service through cooperation among government agencies.
He said the new compactors would improve operational efficiency and help LAWMA deliver faster and more reliable waste collection across the state.
“As Lagos continues to grow, investments in critical equipment like these trucks remain essential to improving service delivery and building a cleaner, healthier and more liveable city,” Gbadegesin said.
Gbadegesin said LAWMA had deployed the trucks to critical operational corridors to complement its existing fleet and improve waste collection efficiency.
He added that the donation highlighted the importance of partnerships in tackling environmental challenges.
According to him, sustainable waste management depends on continuous investment in modern equipment, innovation and strategic collaboration.
“Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility. We commend the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority for this timely intervention and support for our waste management operations.
Together, we are building a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Lagos,” he said.
LAWMA seeks more partnerships
In response, Gbadegesin assured residents that LAWMA would continue to make the best use of available resources, strengthen waste evacuation, step up enforcement and deepen community engagement to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.
He urged other public institutions and corporate organisations to partner with LAWMA by investing in projects that improve waste management infrastructure and service delivery.
He also reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to using modern equipment, embracing innovation and building stronger partnerships to meet the waste management needs of Africa’s fastest-growing megacity.
