Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, on Wednesday commenced charity visit to orphanage and welfare homes in the state to celebrate Christmas with the less privileged.
The governor’s wife said there was the need to show kindness to underprivileged children and adults to give them a sense of belonging and remind them that they were loved.
Some of the orphanage and welfare homes are St. Martin’s Community Children/Welfare Home in Igboukwu, Blessed-Nise Community Children’s Home in Nise and Model Community Children’s Home, Ifite-Awka.
Other are God’s Care School for Special Needs and Faith Community Children’s Home, both in Awka.
Speaking at St. Martin’s Community Children/Welfare Home in Igboukwu, where she visited first, Soludo said Christmas was a period to reach out to those who were often forgotten by the society.
According to her, Christmas will lose it essence if the language of love and kindness is abandoned.
“This kind of visit is so dear to me because the Christmas season is about celebrating with the underprivileged and putting smiles on their faces.
“I want to appeal to our people to extend a hand of compassion and kindness to those around them who do not have.
“I believe that humanity will be better when everyone feels loved and protected,” he said.
Soludo said she would visit every private, public and mission-owned children and welfare homes in the state before the Christmas celebration.
She appreciated the caregivers for their love, sacrifices and commitment to the growth of the children.
Also speaking, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, also urged well-meaning individuals to show love to orphans and the vulnerable in the society.
He said that ignoring or failure to support orphans and vulnerable children would further expose them to negative vices.
The Bishop thanked the governor’s wife for setting the right example as the mother of the state and a woman who lived by the virtues of kindness.
