The Managing Director of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has described the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as a strategic partner in public orientation and behavioural change.

Gbadegesin also reaffirmed LAWMA’s commitment to sustained partnership with NAN on environmental education and public awareness.

NAN reports that Gbadegesin said this during a courtesy visit to Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole, Managing Editor and the Acting Head of Lagos NAN Operations on Wednesday in Lagos.

Gbadegesin said the visit was a follow-up to previous engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration in public enlightenment and responsible waste management practices.

“We are here as a continuation of our partnership, particularly in the area of education and public orientation,” he said.

He said there was the need for consistent sensitisation of residents on proper waste disposal.

In her remarks, Omowole assured LAWMA of accurate and factual reportage of its activities.

Omowole said NAN, with offices across the country and correspondents in all states, remained committed to credible journalism.

“People come to us because they know we report facts,” she said.

Omowole noted that NAN’s nationwide structure gave it a comparative advantage in information dissemination.

She encouraged LAWMA to leverage NAN’s platforms, including its website and other editorial services, to broaden visibility of its waste management initiatives.

She also commended LAWMA’s efforts in improving the environmental outlook of Lagos, describing the state as a model in waste management practices.

NAN reports that both agencies pledged to sustain collaboration in driving environmental awareness and promoting a cleaner Lagos.

The highlight of the visit was presentation of waste and recycling bins from LAWMA to NAN for proper waste management.
