The House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development has assured NYSC members that the National Assembly will support laws that promote youth economic empowerment and better opportunities.
The committee chairman, Hon. Martin Etim Esin, gave the assurance during an oversight visit to the Rivers State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.
Esin said the expected assent of President Bola Tinubu to the NYSC Trust Fund Bill would bring better opportunities for corps members.
He added that the fund would improve welfare and support the upgrade of camp facilities.
He urged corps members to stay focused and gain useful skills through the SAED programme.
He also advised them to maintain integrity while serving as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad-hoc staff during the 2027 general elections.
The Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, praised corps members for their hard work, discipline and commitment in supporting the smooth running of the camp.
He thanked the committee chairman and members for the visit, describing it as historic.
He also commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his support and commitment to NYSC in the state.
Oleghe, however, appealed to the committee chairman to use his office to attract more development to the scheme.
He requested the construction of a new Secretariat complex and better water channels to prevent flooding during heavy rainfall.
He called for the construction of a twin hostel with a capacity of 1,000 males and females, as well as the purchase of 1,000 double-bunk beds.
