Agunechemba operatives have arrested a Nnewi-based native doctor, John Ezenagu, for allegedly luring youths into ritual baths that promise instant wealth. The arrest marks another strike in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s war against spiritual fraud.

The Arrest

Security forces took Ezenagu—popularly known as “Mmou Mmili Afulu Anya”—into custody on Friday. They escorted him to his home for a thorough search and to explain his operations to investigators.

Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Community Security, led the parade. He accused the suspect of deceiving young men and women. Ezenagu allegedly promised them quick riches if they bathed in a stream behind his house.

The Law Bites

This arrest falls under the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025, which Governor Soludo signed in January. The law specifically targets spiritual scams. Clause 18 criminalizes the use of “Okeite” or “Eze Nwanyi” practices to accumulate wealth through supernatural means .

Offenders face six years in prison or a N20 million fine. The law also mandates that suspects prove they actually possess the powers they claim .

Emeakayi stated that authorities had cautioned Ezenagu earlier. However, the native doctor continued his activities. “After investigations, he would face prosecution if found culpable,” Emeakayi added.

The Confession

Ezenagu broke down before journalists. He apologized for his actions and pleaded for mercy. He claimed he did not know the law.

“I dredged the river and felt I had rights over it,” he explained. He promised never to pollute the water again. “I have sinned. I appeal to Governor Soludo for forgiveness. I vow never to deceive young people in the state again.”

The Crackdown Continues

This arrest follows a broader sweep. Governor Soludo revealed that Agunechemba has arrested over 30 native doctors who prepared charms for criminals . The governor has ordered pathological tests on confiscated “Oke Ite” charms. If lab tests reveal human blood, the owners will face severe consequences .

Soludo maintains that native doctors fuel insecurity by deceiving youths. “They celebrate success without hard work. They have ruined a lot of our young boys,” he stated .
