The Forward Operating Base of the Nigerian Navy in Badagry, Lagos, on Sunday handed over two suspected victims of human trafficking to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)
The Commanding Officer, FOB, BADAGRY said the victims were rescued on Friday 17 July 2026, during a targeted operation within its Area of Operations (AOO).
According to the Commanding Officer, the victims were safely taken into custody for necessary care and processing.
“In compliance with the Harmonised Standard Operating Procedures (HSOP) on the protection of victims of human trafficking, the rescued victims were conveyed on Sunday 19 July 2026 to the Western Naval Command Maritime Crime Investigation Desk for documentation and biometric capture.
“Thereafter, they were taken to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Office, Ikeja.
“Accordingly, at about 2.15p.m on Sunday 19 July 2026, the two victims were formally handed over to officials of NAPTIP for further investigation, rehabilitation and other necessary actions.
“The handover underscores the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration in combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons.
“The Nigerian Navy remains resolute in its efforts to combat human trafficking and other transnational crimes within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
“FOB BADAGRY will continue to work closely with NAPTIP and other relevant agencies to deny criminal elements freedom of action while ensuring rescued victims receive the protection and support provided under extant laws,” he said.
He stated that these sustained efforts of FOB BADAGRY demonstrate its unwavering commitment to maritime security within its Area of Responsibility.
“These are all geared toward complying with the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Idi Abbas strategic directive 2023-6 which is to ensure a safe and secure maritime environment,” he said.
