The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has re-echoed the call for a sustainable environment at its 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Monday in Lagos.
Newsmen reports that council members of the foundation stressed the importance of the care for nature when they took turns to render reports on how the foundation faired in the outgoing year. 2022.
Speaking at the AGM, the President, Board of Trustees of the foundation, Izomo Philip Asiodu charged young men between 40 and 70 years of age to dedicate their lives to nature conservation.
Asiodu noted that some of the men who committed themselves to nature conservation lived to a very old age.
According to him. NCF marked 40 years of official existence in the outcome year 2022.
“For four decades, NCF has achieved sustained environmental impact through consistent implementation of programmes that helped restore and conserve the environment, promoted biodiversity conservation, protected species; provided environmental education for many students and youth all over the country, and supported community livelihood.
“For 40 years, NCF has been at the fore front of promoting and advocating for a society where people prosper while living in harmony with nature.
“In terms of concrete conservation projects, we were able to plant and nurture over two million trees across Nigeria under the Green Recovery Nigeria (GRN) Programme of the Foundation that has an ambitious target of restoring Nigeria’s forest cover to 25 per cent by 2050.
For the Chairman. National Executive Council of NCF, Chief Ede Dafinone, said that the foundation in 2022 embarked on other community conservation initiatives that trained 50 women and youths from support zone communities in one of the newly designated River Kampe National Park in Kwara State on Biochar production from rice wastes.
According to him.species conservation is a key pillar for NCF.
“We embarked in aggressive rescue mission to save the lives African forest Elephants, Cross River Gorillas, Pangolin, Vultures, Sea Turtles, Lions among others.
For the Director-General of NCF. Dr. Joseph Onoja, the foundation planted about 100,000 trees in 2022to push further the Green Recovery Nigeria (GRN) programme.
Onoja noted that in the drive of the foundation to save species in peril, the foundation embarked on a project tagged to save wildcats.
