For decades, the promise of “God’s Own State” often felt distant for many residents of Abia, especially those living in its long-neglected rural and semi-urban corridors. Today, however, a wave of transformation is sweeping through the Ndume communities, prompting locals to boldly declare Governor Alex Otti the best leader the state has had since its creation in 1991.

The people of Umuafai, Umeazela, Umuana, and Lodu—the four communities in Ndume clan are finally breathing a collective sigh of relief. For years they endured deplorable roads that strangled commerce and isolated families. Now, that narrative has shifted dramatically.

At the heart of this renewed optimism is the ongoing construction of the Ndume Ring Road, a strategic project designed to connect the communities seamlessly. What sets the Otti administration apart, according to local leaders and youths, is not merely that roads are being constructed, but the speed, precision, and quality of the execution.

The project kicked off with strong momentum late last year, and work is currently in full swing. Contractors are rounding off the earthwork phase, with preparations for asphalting already at an advanced stage.

By delivering a functional ring road, the administration is unlocking economic opportunities, boosting property values, and easing the movement of agricultural produce—changes that residents say they have waited decades to witness.

Across community meetings from Umuafai to Lodu, the sentiment is consistent. Spokespersons describe the project as the most impactful infrastructure effort in the area since Abia emerged from the old Imo State.

“We have seen many governments come and go, but the precision and sincerity of purpose shown by Dr. Alex Otti are different. He didn’t just give us promises; he gave us caterpillars and coal tar.

We are grateful to our son, the Deputy Speaker of the 8th Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini who attracted and facilitated the road project,” one community leader remarked.

Under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, the state’s rebuilding agenda appears to be gaining remarkable traction. For the Ndume people, this road is more than asphalt and stone, it is a pathway to a more prosperous future.

As rollers continue to level the earth in preparation for the final asphalt coating, the message from Ibeku is unmistakable: performance remains the ultimate politics, and in the eyes of the Ndume communities, Governor Otti is setting a new standard.
