The Nigerian Army has announced a major reshuffle of senior officers, naming new General Officers Commanding (GOCs), commanders and key staff officers to strengthen security operations across Nigeria.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said on Saturday in a statement that the changes affect field commanders, school commandants and principal staff officers at Army Headquarters.
The statement said Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, approved the redeployment to improve the Army’s ability to tackle emerging security challenges.
Major General WM Dangana will now serve as GOC 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE. He replaces Major General EF Oyinlola.
It noted that Major General EI Okoro has been appointed GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE. He succeeds Major General EE Emeka.
Major General JR Lar becomes Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola takes over as Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri retains his role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.
Also, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been appointed Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brigadier General K Rabiu becomes Commander of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
Working toward the growing technology-based security threats, Major General SA Emmanuel was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.
The Army said the move reflects its focus on emerging areas of warfare and technology-driven security operations.
Major General O Adegbe has been appointed Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.
Similarly, Major General KE Chigbu becomes Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo takes over as Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School.
Other appointments include Major General SO Adejimi as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport and Major General FS Etim as Chief of Training at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC).
Brigadier General U Ahmad has also been appointed Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
Also, Major General KO Ukandu becomes Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison becomes Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
The statement said the Chief of Army Staff charged the newly appointed officers to show strong leadership, professionalism, innovation and commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The Nigerian Army said it remains committed to building a professional, combat-ready and people-focused force capable of addressing current and future security challenges.
