Awka, Nigeria – The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) ,in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, on Saturday warned that Nigerian youths should not be directed on how to express their grievances as long as such steps were within the confines of the law.

Obi spoke in Awka, the Anambra State capital, during the investiture of the 8th District Governor, District 9142 of Rotary International, Prof Nkemdili Nnonyelu, at the International Convention Center, Awka.

He regretted that the country was now at cross roads, with its attendant consequences on the citizenry, particularly the youths.

He stressed that the youths knew their priorities and have rights to demand for them.

He said, “I don’t dictate to the youths what they do. They know their priorities and they have rights to demand for those priorities.

“They should not be directed by anybody, because what affects them, affects their lives. So whatever they do should be within their own resilience.

“Our country is going through difficult times and the citizens have the right to demand for such rights in peaceful, lawful and organised manner.”

On the death of Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, the former Governor of Anambra State described the death as devastating and painful.

He prayed God to grant his family eternal rest and give us the fortune to bear the loss.

Obi further urged the new Rotary Governor, Nnonyelu, and the Rotary community to be at the forefront of transformation in the country.

Also speaking, Sen Ben Obi, chairman of the event, commended Rotary International organisation for its commitment to selfless service and humanitarian efforts.

He urged the government to prioritise reducing hunger and improving the quality of life of all Nigerians.

Nnonyelu expressed gratitude and outlined his focus for the year, which includes water and sanitation, basic education, economic development, maternal and child health and other projects.

Nnonyelu encouraged everyone to join Rotary, emphasizing the importance of giving a helping hand and working together to serve their communities.
