NNL victory: Abakaliki FC coach seeks winning consistency from players

The Acting Chief Coach of Abakaliki Football Club of Ebonyii, Starplus Anista on Saturday, sought consistency in winning from his players after a match day four home victory against Ekiti United.

The “Rice Boys” as the team is fondly called, beat the Ekiti team in Abakaliki, in a Nigeria National League (NNL) duel to record its second win of the season.

The team has thus garnered seven points from four matches recovering from a lacklustre 1-1 draw in its first match at home, which led to the suspension of the Head Coach, Ifeanyi Onyedika (MON).

Anista while speaking with newsmen after the match, said the boys played to instructions but have to be consistent in winning it’s matches.

“”This NNL season is characterised by fluctuation in results with teams winning, drawing and losing games.

“The strongest teams manage the situation well by winning consistently and that is what we are working towards.”

He praised his players for their tenacity in guarding its lone goal, noting that they have duly imbibed the spirit of controlling affairs during matches, especially at home.

“We no longer surrender control to our opponents and that is what people misconcept as indiscipline.

“We got only one yellow card after a gritty display in the match and this shows that the complacency which undid us last season, is being corrected.”

Anista said that he was not under any pressure to impress the club management and fans in order to be confirmed the chief coach of the club.

“I am focused on my job with utmost concentration and will. allow my performances speak for me.”

Coach of Ekiti United FC, Bolarinwa Idris commended his players for their “impressive” performances, noting that he still has one of the best teams in the NNL.

“The traditional home factor in the nation’s leagues worked against us as this did not take anything away from players” display.

“We would come out stronger in subsequent matches to achieve our promotion aim at the end of the season.”

The Chairman of Abakaliki FC Supporters Club, Maurice Mbam assured fans that the team is experiencing a new lease which would ensure a credible performances in the series.

“The victories are coming and the fans are happy but there is still more to come.”
