Mr. Paul Chukwuma, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate in the Nov. 8 Anambra governorship election, says he has no intention of leaving the party, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the YPP in the state.

Chukwuma stated this during a meeting with party members and his political associates at his country home in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

He made the declaration after the election in which he secured 37,753 votes, placing third.

The incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), won re-election with 422,664 votes, while Mr. Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came second with 99,445 votes.

“I have resolved to remain in the YPP. I have taken the time to think through it.

“I listened to arguments and efforts to convince me otherwise, but after careful assessment, I can say that I will remain in the YPP to build the party,”he said.

Chukwuma, who described himself as a founding member and leading financier of the APC in Anambra, noted that his departure from the APC shortly before its governorship primaries surprised many, just as his decision to contest under the YPP did.

According to him, many believed he would return to the APC after the poll.

“However, my choice to remain in the YPP has now put that speculation to rest.

“I am comfortable with the YPP, and firmly believe that, together with my team, we must stay committed to building a strong and credible political platform rather than abandoning it,”he said.

He added that he was still reviewing the outcome of the governorship election to determine the next appropriate steps.
