Lagos, May 7, 2024 – The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), in collaboration with the Nigeria-Sport-For-All Commission, will organise the 2022 edition of the Olympic Day celebration on Saturday, June 29, 2024, within the territory of Nigeria.

Olympic Day is a date for people of all ages and all abilities to experience some of the magic of the Olympic Games in their communities.

The Olympic Day celebration is an annual event that will occur worldwide in June.

The Secretary-General of NOC, Babatunde Popoola, emphasised that the event is an ideal platform to highlight the benefits of physical activity, which allows people to learn about Olympic values and put them into practice in their everyday lives.

Engaging in exercises promotes health and fitness for individuals. Jogging and walking burns calories, tones muscles, shapes your body and help de-stress your mind.

Olympic Day has always been celebrated by our NOC with fanfare nationwide. This year’s programme will not be an exception as many States are already preparing to organise the programme in various States.

The States that so far registered to participate in the event are Anambra, Gombe, Taraba, Edo, Bayelsa, Imo, Plateau, Ondo, Ebonyi, FCT, Taraba, Kogi and Lagos while other States are still being expected to indicate their interest in the programme.

According to the Chairman of NOC Sport For All Commission, Abdul Ibrahim, “the 2024 Olympic Day celebration is being coordinated by NOC Sport For All Commission, and it promises to be one of the most successful events because most of the States of the federation are expected to organise the programme in their various States”.

In Lagos, where our NOC head office is located, physical fitness and recreational activities will be organised, including aerobic exercises, jogging and demonstration events.

The celebration will be concluded with the presentation of Diplomas signed by the President of the International Olympic Committee.

The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel and other dignitaries will flag off the event.

NOC encourages corporate and philanthropic individuals to donate their products and support the event financially, given the mileage it will give to their companies.
