The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, has said that no amount of pressure or misinformation will deter the police from carrying out their constitutional duties.
Jimoh made the declaration on Wednesday while receiving the Most Outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief in West and Central Africa for 2025 award, in recognition of the crime prevention strategies he introduced during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
The award, conferred by the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network at the 19th African Security Watch Awards held in Gambia, was formally presented to Jimoh at the Zone 2 command, Lagos by the organisation’s International Coordinator, Mr Patrick Agbambu, and its National Coordinator, Mrs Elizabeth Tanko.
The AIG dedicated the award to the officers and personnel who served under his leadership during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, describing the honour as a reflection of their collective commitment, professionalism and sacrifice in the fight against crime.
“Nothing will stop us from enforcing the law. The law of the land must be enforced, whether you are rich or poor, known or unknown, a police officer or a civilian.
Everyone is subject to the same law,” he said.
Jimoh said allegations against police officers should be addressed through lawful channels, adding that matters already before the courts should be allowed to follow due judicial process.
The police boss disclosed that petitions against him had been responded to before the appropriate authorities, including the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission, while related court cases were ongoing.
The AIG attributed the successes recorded during his tenure in Lagos to teamwork, effective supervision, support from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, collaboration with the Lagos State Government and cooperation from residents.
He recalled that his administration established the Eko Strike Force to complement existing tactical units, expanded operational coverage and adopted intelligence-led policing strategies that helped reduce crime across the state.
Jimoh also highlighted the peaceful conduct of the local government elections in Lagos under his watch, noting that there were no major incidents of electoral violence or ballot box snatching.
He pledged that the Zone 2 Command would continue to strengthen crime prevention strategies and improve policing across Lagos and Ogun states.
“We will continue to improve in our operations and crime prevention efforts. We have no choice but to move forward in ensuring the safety and security of our people,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, Agbambu, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Africa Security Watch, commended Jimoh for his outstanding contributions to policing, professionalism and commitment to crime prevention, urging him not to relent in the discharge of his duties.
He said the Africa Security Watch Award was established to recognise excellence among security personnel and encourage improved service delivery across the continent.
According to him, the annual conference and awards, which began in Nigeria in 2004 and is now in its 19th edition, have grown into a continental platform for promoting African-led solutions to security challenges.
Agbambu said Africa could not effectively tackle insecurity without addressing its root causes, including unemployment, poverty, hunger and underdevelopment.
He described Jimoh as a disciplined and resilient officer whose commitment to community policing and crime prevention had earned him widespread recognition, urging younger officers to emulate his dedication and professionalism.
