Onicha (Ebonyi), Nigeria – Wife of Ebonyi state Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has called on Lawmakers to continue to step down constituency projects for development and meeting the needs of people at the grassroots.
Nwifuru made the call on Friday at the inauguration of constituency projects in Onicha East of the state.
According to her, stepping down constituency projects could redirect resources towards initiatives that are more tailored to specific community requirements.
She said that donation of an emergency response ambulance, distribution of eight motorcycles, fertilisers and other farm inputs to women in agriculture, marks the beginning.
She added that the programme also ushered in enrollment of women into the state health insurance agency.
“Constituency projects represent commitment to the people and expressions of our dedication to addressing the needs and aspirations of our constituents.
“it is imperative that we continue advocating for more resources and support so that we can address other pressing issues facing our communities.
“Remain united to ensure that every citizen benefits from the progress we are making in this state,” Nwifuru said.
Mr Celestine Ogba, Member, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, representing Onicha East, said that the projects are in partnership with those of the Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Foundation (BERWO) of Mrs Nwifuru.
Ogba described the procurement as part of his line-up projects for his constituents and to bring governance to the grassroots.
“The ambulance is a donation from my office to the people of Onicha East. And It was made to cover the gaps in conveying of patients or accident victims to medical facilities.
“Then, I witnessed a 27-year-old man die because there was no means to convey him to the hospital.
“We are partnering with BERWO because it focuses on better lives for rural women and children. I am happy giving back to the society,” Ogba said.
The Lawmaker appreciated his constituents for the support and solidarity given so far to the administration.
Mr Ikechukwu Ogbuofia, Chairman of the council, commended Gov. Francis Nwifuru for government presence in the area.
The event featured the laying of a foundation for a 3-bedroom bungalow for a widow and the inauguration of BERWO committee in the area by Mrs Nwifu
