NYSC met set goals of establishment – State Coordinator

The Ebonyi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Mrs Malgwi Maidariya, has said that the the scheme has met its set goals and lived up to purpose of its establishment.

Maidariya made the disclosure during the commemoration of the NYSC 53rd anniversary in the state,, noting that it has remained a powerful tool for nation building since being established in 1973.

Maidariya represented by the Assistant Director, Human Resource Management, Mr Ogunkunle Azeez, said the scheme has fostered unity across ethnic, religious and cultural boundaries.

“The vision of the scheme’s founding fathers have been realised with the promotion of national integration, community development and educational advancement.

“Effective health delivery, electoral support services, rural transformation among other strides, are some of the significant achievements of the scheme.

“The scheme has also produced professionals, entrepreneurs, technocrats and patriotic citizens who have contributed in shaping the future of the country,” .

The coordinator said that the scheme in Ebonyi has championed national development through strategic collaboration and alignment with the policies and developmental aspirations of Ebonyi government.

“This event is a remarkable milestone worthy of celebration.”

Miss Aniebiet George, a Youth Corper serving with the Ebonyi Ministry of Finance said she is fulfilled to be part of the NYSC innovation.

George called on the scheme’s management to ensure the posting of corps members to their areas of specialisation.

“This will help the them acquire basic knowledge and experience to excel in life.”

Emmanuel Obaegbulam, Another Corps Member said that corps members have benefited much from the scheme especially in the area of health.

“Government at all levels should tackle the security challenges confronting the nation to check the risks faced by corps members while serving the nation.

“The government should also increase the allowance of corps members to enable them survive in their areas of service,” he said.

The high points of the occasion was cutting of anniversary cake, drama presentations, cultural displays all by the corps members, among others.
