Maj.-Gen. LKJ Ogunewe (retd.) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to call Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo State to order, following the recent abduction of Hon. Clinton Amadi to an unknown place in a Gestapo style.
!08scoop.com reports that Hon. Clinton Amadi is the LP candidate for Owerri Municipal in the last House of Assembly elections in Imo state.
Ogunewe, who is the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial aspirant for the state, in a statement, urged the Inspector General of Police to take special interest in happenings in the state.
He, however, called for the immediate release of Amadi.
While condemning in very strong terms his abduction which he said, is a calculated attempt to prevent Hon. Clinton Amadi from exercising his constitutionally guaranteed rights.
He warned the Imo state government and its agents to stop taking laws into their hands, saying this may worsen the insecurity in the state.
Ogunewe also advised the state governor to provide a level playing ground for all political parties to operate in the state and stop the witch-hunting of political opponents.Â
He called on local and international Civil Society Organisations (CSOS) and the Nigerian Media to beam searchlight on the violation of human rights by the Hope Uzodimma-led administration in Imo state.
He, however, called on LP members to remain calm while the issue is being taken up with relevant authorities.
A source who refused to be named, said, “Amadi had gone to the INEC office last week to get the Certified True Copy (CTC) of results to help him file his election petition and was allegedly harassed by the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The INEC personnel alerted the Government House Policemen and the Ebubeagu militia being controlled by the governor. Luckily Amandi escaped before they arrived.
“He was later invited by INEC to collect the CTC but not knowing that INEC and the Government House officials had set a trap for him.
“Immediately after the CTC was given to him, a detachment of Government House Police led by one Chinasa Nwaneri, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties forced him into their vehicle to an undisclosed place.”
