Maj.-Gen. LKJ Ogunewe (rtd.), the Action Alliance (AA) Governorship Candidate for Imo state in the forthcoming Nov. 11, 2023 elections, has expressed his sympathy to Igbo traders whose shops were demolished in Alaba International Market, Lagos by Lagos State Government.
Ogunewe, in a statement, expressed sadness at the callous development.
He said that if the demolitions are made to protect lives, the Lagos state government should provide alternative shops to the traders or pay them compensation to enable them secure alternative shops.
He harped on the need for the government to give adequate notice to the traders before embarking on such exercise in the future.
Ogunewe also commended the Abia state governor, Dr Alex Otti, for the concern he showed towards the plight of the traders.
The candidate, however, took a swipe on governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state whom he reffered to as the ”absentee governor of Imo state.”
He accused Uzodimma of not showing concern to the hardship being faced by the traders, some of whom are from Imo state.
Ogunewe noted that in the last one month, Uzodimma has virtually relocated to Abuja and had abandoned his work in Imo state as a governor.
He predicted that Imo state people would chase Uzodimma away from the Government House Owerri, come November with their votes.
According to him, Imo people will usher in an AA administration headed by him.
