Otti vows to arrest killers of soldier in Aba

Governor Alex Chioma Otti of Abia State has commiserated with the Nigerian Army over the death of a soldier who was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Saturday at the army checkpoint at Asa Road by Milverton, Aba, at about 7:30 pm.

The governor also vowed to ensure that the culprits were brought to book.

Otti who was represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, visited the spot where the soldier was killed and met with the Brigade Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia. 

Cyril Chukwudi Eke Mba, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, in a statement, said Otti expressed sadness over the unwarranted incident and called for concerted efforts to fish out the culprits of the heinous act.

“The Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, sends his condolences to the Nigerian Army over the unwarranted murder of a soldier who was until his death, attached to the Asa Road by Milverton checkpoint.

“The Government of Abia State will not tolerate any form of security threats, or attacks on security personnel or outfits anywhere in the state.

“Be assured of the government’s support to see that the culprits are apprehended. I will direct the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities to light up the checkpoint and every other place deserving of illumination.

“The Government of Abia State will take care of the family of the deceased”, the Governor assured.

The Brigade Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Brigadier General O.O.Diya took the Governor around the scene and promised to put their expertise to work by fishing out the culprits who are currently at large.
