Cairo, Egypt – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has congratulated Morocco for winning Bronze in Men’s Football at the Olympics and Egypt for getting to the Semi-Finals.

The President of CAF, Dr Patrice Motsepe, said: “CAF and the African Football family are proud of Morocco for winning Bronze in Men’s Football and Egypt for qualifying for the Men’s Semi-Finals.

“This is the first time in the history of Men’s Football at the Olympics that two African Nations have qualified for the Semi-Finals.

“Cameroon and Nigeria were previous recipients of the Olympic Men’s Football gold medals.

“Significant human and infrastructure investments are currently being made in Africa for the development and growth of football and particularly in youth academies for Boys and Girls.”

He said that Local and international businesses and African Governments are partnering with CAF and several National Football Associations and Leagues as the global competitiveness and popularity of African football is increasing.

“CAF is making substantial progress to ensure that football on the African Continent is as good as the best in the world.

“I am confident that an African Nation and its football players will once more win gold medals at the Olympics. I am also confident that an African Nation will win the FIFA World Cup,” Motsepe added.
