Lagos, Dec. 21, 2025 — The Area H Command of the Police in Lagos State on Saturday extended joy and hope to children in selected orphanages as officers of the command donated food and other household items to them.
The outreach was led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area H Command, Ogudu, Lagos State, ACP Sholla Omilade.
She said that the ‘Humanitarian Policing initiative’ was inspired by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, and his commitment to strengthening police–community relations through compassion and service.
Speaking during the visits, ACP Omilade explained that the gesture was aimed at reaching out to the less privileged, particularly children in orphanages, during the festive season, to show love and care beyond the traditional role of law enforcement.
She said that the food items and other items donated were personal contributions from officers of Area H Command, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), personnel of the command, and friends of the police within the community.
Omilade said that support also came from some individuals who preferred to remain anonymous and other community stakeholders who keyed into the vision of humanitarian policing.
“This is our way of showing that the police are not just law enforcers, but friends of the people. We are not only saying it; we are demonstrating it through action by giving back to society,” Omilade said.

She said that the initiative was a deliberate effort to rebuild public trust and correct negative perceptions about the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that the police remain committed to the welfare and safety of all citizens, especially the vulnerable.
“Many people see the police as enemies, but we are not. We are friends of the people. This outreach is to show that we truly care, not just by words but by action,” she said.
ACP Omilade offered prayers for the children, the officers of the Nigeria Police Force, and the nation, while wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Representatives of Heritage Home in Anthony Village and Echo of Mercy and Hope Foundation in Maryland thanked the Nigeria Police Force, describing the gesture as a positive step in boosting public confidence.
They noted that such acts of kindness, if sustained, would go a long way in improving the image of the police locally and globally, while positively impacting vulnerable members of society.
