Lagos, April 15, 2024 – A priest has been stabbed multiple times while live streaming a Mass at a Sydney church.

Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was leading a service at Wakely’s Christ The Good Shepherd Church when a man with a knife approached him at the altar.

Video showed the attacker stab the leader of the ultra-conservative sect of the Assyrian Orthodox, who has a large social media following, multiple times.

Police said they had arrested the suspect and the priest’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The incident comes just days after a man killed six people in a Westfield shopping centre.
