President Bola Tinubu used his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message to send a strong signal on security, economic reforms, and national unity, while several top political figures also rallied support for his administration and urged Nigerians to remain patient.
Tinubu Warns Criminals, Promises Tough Action
Tinubu said his government would defeat terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups threatening the country. He warned criminals to change their ways or face the full force of the law.
Furthermore, he assured communities hit by insecurity that the government had not abandoned them. He promised more spending on security, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital development.
The president also defended his administration’s economic reforms. He said difficult decisions taken in the last three years had started producing results, including a more stable economy and stronger investor interest.
Political Leaders Back Reforms
Meanwhile, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, former governor Orji Uzor Kalu, and Senator Solomon Adeola urged Nigerians to embrace patience and sacrifice.
They argued that the country was passing through a difficult phase but insisted that Tinubu’s reforms would eventually strengthen the economy and improve living conditions.
Kalu admitted the reforms had caused hardship. However, he maintained that they remained necessary for long-term growth and called for stronger local production and youth empowerment.
Atiku Calls for Better Leadership
In response, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar congratulated Muslims and shifted attention to leadership responsibilities.
He said leaders should put citizens first, especially during difficult times. Atiku argued that leadership should focus on service rather than status.
Governors Push Messages of Unity
Meanwhile, governors including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Peter Mbah, Dapo Abiodun, Siminalayi Fubara, and Monday Okpebholo urged Nigerians to promote peace, tolerance, and unity.
They called on citizens to support one another and help vulnerable people during the Sallah season.
FG Cuts Train Fares by 50%
Consequently, the Federal Government announced a 50 percent reduction in train ticket prices across all Nigerian Railway Corporation routes.
The discount started on Tuesday and will run until June 1. The government said passengers who already paid full fares would receive a rebate for future travel.
Security Agencies Move Nationwide
Furthermore, security agencies launched nationwide deployments ahead of the celebrations.
The NSCDC deployed more than 56,000 personnel and tactical units across Nigeria. Bauchi Police, Gombe FRSC, and other agencies also mobilised officers to protect highways, Eid grounds, and public places.
