The Police Command in Lagos on Monday arrested Afrobeats musician, Seun Kuti over an alleged assault on a police officer.

Kuti, it was gathered turned himself in, to the Police following a viral video of the singer assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos state had emerged on Saturday.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer,  had earlier announced that the last child of late Afrobeats legend, Fela Kuti, had turned himself in on Monday morning.

The singer, his lawyer and a family representative reportedly arrived at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, had as a result of the incident, ordered the arrest of the singer.

He equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the alleged assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

Following the order, Kuti turned himself in, shortly after the Lagos PPRO, took to Twitter to reveal that the singer has been placed under arrest for assaulting a police officer.

Meanwhile human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, on Sunday, said Seun Kuti had sought his legal services.

Falana, who confirmed the legal services development, also insisted that Seun Kuti has enough evidence to defend himself.

He said: “I am his lawyer and he has briefed me. He certainly has evidence. This is not the first time he is dealing with the police.”

Falana said the embattled singer would turn himself in on Monday.

He said: “He is going to report himself to the police tomorrow morning. There is no problem at all.”
