The Immediate Past Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports in Ebonyi State, Hon. Charles Akpu-Enika has said that the Silverbird Group Extraordinary Personality of the Year award on Engr David Umahi, has shown that Nigerians appreciate his wondrous feats on road infrastructure.
Akpu-Enika in an interview with newsmen in Abakaliki said that at a time some “shenagnians” were casting aspersions on the Minister of Works through a falacious debt owed a woman, Nigerians were appreciating the miracle he was performing on Nigerian roads.
The “Game Changer” as he is known in the Ebonyi political and social circles, said that the outpour of support on the minister from Nigerians shows that they can identify cheap blackmail on a performing personality.
“The silverbird award on the minister further credenced the fact that Umahi is actually practicalising President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope mandate on roads and related infrastructure across the country.
“Umahi has an impeccable record in office: from party chairman, deputy governor, governor, senator and minister and has never been tainted with any scandal.
“For a man with such magnificent record and sojourn in public office to be associated with a debt of mere promotional item,, is an absurdity of the highest order.
“Nigerians are united in chorusing that Umahi’s impact since assuming office as minister of works is experience-driven and innovative in meeting infrastructural challenges.”
He urged the minister to remain undaunted in his unmatched dexterity in delivering the goods, noting that Nigerians were solidly behind him.
“I served under Umahi for 8 years as a Commissioner and cannot quantify his motivational and administrative impact on my person.
“He is someone that can be likened to a robot: astute in mind and body and can never be shaken by cheap blackmail and gullible talks
“I am happy that he is not ruling out political undertones and influences on the debt issue but happier that he has declared ever-readiness for the game when the whistle is blown.”
Akpu-Enika thanked President Tinubu for his continued confidence in Umahi, noting that the man whom he served under can never disappoint the president.
“Umahi has shown that the wonder he wrought on infrastructure in Ebonyi is no fluke as the country has witnessed massive infrastructural turn around.
“We are witnesses to landmark achievements in road construction anchored on four legacy projects now reshaping national connectivity.
“These projects include the 750km Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, the 1,068km Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, the Transharan corridor stretching from Calabar through Ebonyi and Benue to Abuja, and the 420km Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Borno corridor.”
He noting that the people of the south east zone were grateful to the President for his road interventions in the zone, assuring that Ebonyi and others states of the zone would give him 100 percent of their votes in the 2027 general elections.
