Singer Chinwendu Florence Izuchukwu popularly known as Floxy has said that sexual harassment is the reason fewer ladies are doing music in Nigeria.

She recalled being asked for sex each time she took her song to radio station, adding that a presenter in Owerri, Imo State once swore that her songs will never be aired in their station if she doesn’t sleep with him.

Floxy also stated that radio presenters are not the only culprits, saying that a DJ once proposed that she will maintain regular visits to his house once he starts playing her songs in clubs and events.

“There were other girls experiencing the same thing back them and today, none of them is active in music now, everyone quit and left it for them”

“These things make you question your ability. You start doubting how good you are or if you’re just good for the sex and nothing more”

“You see people hail you in public, share their contacts and when you meet them in private, they forget why you’re there and start talking about how and when they want to sleep with you”

“A particular radio presenter in Owerri even refused to play a song I was featured in because I never slept with him”

“It was crazy back then and you’ll just ask yourself how many people you’ll end up sleeping with before you can become a star”

She said that even if she had wanted to consider their offers, there is no possible way people who are not stars on their own can make others a star.

“I checked their pasts and they haven’t made anyone a star, so why will I be their first project? They are just liars and vampires”, she said.

Floxy, whose last release was ‘Forever Flora’, a compilation of her songs, said she has missed music and thinks a return would make a lot of sense.

She said she took out time to develop herself and now she is a graduate as well as a seamstress.

“I know a lot now, I’ve done a lot of things, but music keeps calling me”

“I know a lot has changed, but I am Floxy, and I can always take on anything. I am back for good, so just wait for it”, she said.

She revealed that she will be marking her return with a single in April and everyone should wait for it.
