“Support your families, uplift society” IFAD VCDP urges women in…

“The International Fund for Agriculturall Development (IFAD) assisted Value Chain Development Programme ( VCDP) has urged women in Ebonyi state to support their families and generally uplift the society.

The State Programme Coordinator (SPC) of IFAD- VCDP, Chief Sunday Ituma made the call in Abakaliki during the celebration of the International Women’s Day for participating women networks of its programme.

Ituma urged the women to enhance efforts to achieve a better society by being economically engaged and assist their husbands in their homes.

“You should also play active roles to achieve women rights, justice and empowerment for the female folk.

“You should also work harder to attain positions of authority with the present call for the participation of more women in politics.”

He commended the women drawn across the eight participating LGAs of the state for their exhibitiion of various nutritional items, march past among other activities, at the event.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Mrs Nkechinyere Iyioku, commended the women for their resilience in empowering themselves and assisting their familiies.

Iyioku, represented by the Head of Livestock Unit in the ministry, Mrs Ngozi Emeka–Anosike, said the women showcased nutritional food items during the exhibition.

“The food items contain protein, vitamins among other nutrients which buttresses the call for Nigerians to go back to natural foods.

“We presently consume junk food items and such has adverse effects on our healths.”

She urged the women to enhance their economic capabilities as time has passed when they stay indoors and leave the men to fend for their families.

Mrs Fransisca Anya, The Rural Institution Gender Youth Mainstreaming Officer of Ebonyi IFAD–VCDP said the women produced the food under the programme’s tutulage.

Anya said the food items include: garri, cassava, vegetables, local delicacies such as soups among other natural consumables.

“IFAD–VCDP would continue appreciating the roles of women in family support and would continue enlightening them on ways to enhance their economic capabilities.
