Teenage girl electrocuted while running away from dog in Lagos

Lagos, July 13, 2023- Taiye Ojo, a 13-year-old girl, has been electrocuted while attempting to run from a dog at her parents residence in Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos State.

The tragedy occurred while the teenager was said to be running away from a barking dog.

It learnt that the young girl was on her way to the toilet located within the premises when the dog started barking.

Scared by the dog’s behaviour, she was said to have attempted to run far from the dog’s reach.

An eyewitness who preferred not to be mentioned, said scared by barking and in an attempt to escape from the dog, the girl accidentally touched the outdoor unit of an air conditioner that resulted to her being electrocuted.

The source said she was taken to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead.

The incident was later reported to the Sabo Police Station.

“Information has it that a dog was barking at the deceased while she was going to the toilet and when she tried to escape from the dog, her hand mistakenly touched the window unit air conditioner which electrocuted her.

“The DPO led the patrol team and detectives to the scene, but the deceased was already rushed to the hospital where she gave up the ghost,” the report reads.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

The remains of the girl is however, said to have been buried according to Islamic rites.
