A 24-year-old Thai national, Ms. Pattaphi Wimonnat, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
She was attempting to smuggle 43 parcels of Canadian Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain, weighing 46.60 kg. The drugs were found in her luggage as she arrived on a Qatar Airways flight from Thailand via Doha.
In the NDLEA statement, Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, revealed, “The suspect, who confessed to being a hired drug trafficker, was arrested… She said the drug cartel that recruited her promised to pay her $3,000 upon successful delivery of the illicit consignment in Nigeria.”
Additionally, the NDLEA reported intercepting 68 parcels of Ghanaian Loud destined for London and large quantities of tramadol and skunk in other operations.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), NDLEA’s Chairman/CEO, commended the officers’ efforts, saying, “Their operational successes, particularly their balanced approach to both drug supply reduction and demand reduction efforts, are highly appreciated.”
