President Bola Tinubu’s legacy projects across Nigeria have weakened the opposition’s claimed popularity, Minister of Works David Umahi said during an inspection of ongoing federal projects in Ebonyi State.
Umahi spoke in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State while inspecting legacy road projects passing through the area.
According to him, President Tinubu’s visible infrastructure projects and political inclusion of the South-East have won massive support from the region.
He said the zone has never witnessed this level of federal development in Nigeria’s history, adding that many residents now appreciate the road projects and other infrastructure across the region.
Umahi expressed disappointment that some critics still speak against the Tinubu administration despite the ongoing projects.
“The president is on course in transforming the South-East, and we owe him our appreciation and support,” he said.
The minister urged Nigerians, especially people from the South-East, to remain patient with the president. He said the country’s long-standing problems could not disappear overnight.
Umahi described Tinubu as “a solution president” and argued that he needs another four years to complete reforms across key sectors of the country.
He said the legacy projects have created hundreds of jobs at construction sites. He added that business activities have increased around the projects, while the heavy presence of workers has helped reduce insecurity along affected roads.
Umahi said South-East voters would no longer believe what he called empty promises from opposition politicians. He predicted they would support Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Umahi said every opposition candidate would have the freedom to contest the 2027 election. However, he insisted they would struggle against Tinubu’s growing popularity, especially in the South-East.
He also dismissed claims that anyone wanted political opponents harmed before the election.
“I am ever ready to debate with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate on why South-Easterners should be grateful to Tinubu for unprecedented development and all-round inclusivity,” he said.
