Lagos, July 19, 2023 – From July 19 – July 24, Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Liz Allen will visit Los Angeles, California, and Aspen, Colorado.

Her trip is focused on communicating the work of the State Department to domestic constituencies; supporting the Department’s 5,000-person strong global public diplomacy workforce; and engaging the private sector to deliver compelling content to audiences overseas.

In Los Angeles, Under Secretary Allen will join Mayor Karen Bass at a reception in honor of the Los Angeles Diplomatic Corps and U.S. Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

At the University of Southern California (USC), she will visit participants – including 10 U.S. Foreign Service Officers who serve in the Public Diplomacy cone – at the USC Center on Public Diplomacy’s Summer Institute, a two-week hands-on training for government and civil society public diplomacy professionals currently in its 17th year.

Under Secretary Allen will meet with experts at the USC Center on Public Diplomacy and at the Norman Lear Center, a nonpartisan research and public policy center that studies the social, political, economic, and cultural impact of entertainment.

She also will meet with entertainment industry stakeholders and partners to discuss ongoing collaborations and opportunities around culture and storytelling, as well as ways to build on the international creative economy.

In Aspen, Under Secretary Allen will represent the work of public diplomacy in conversations on the information space and national security at the Aspen Strategy Group’s Summer Workshop.
