An Abia State-based non-governmental organisation, Grassroots Political Women for ONWA2023, says they will embark on `door-to-door’ campaign in support of sir Innocent Nwachukwu, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate for the 2023 Umuahia East State Constituency, House of Assembly election.

The women, at a stakeholders meeting at the Isieke Community Hall, Ibeku, Umuahia, said the purpose of the door-to-door campaign is to awaken the consciousness of the entire women and youths within the constituency.

Mrs Ihuoma Gbaruko, the leader of the women, described the Umuahia East State Constituency, House of Assembly hopeful as God sent, saying the constituency is in dire need of him.

“Let it be clear to everyone that we are battle ready to campaign for the enthronement of a good leader who will uplift the people from the suffering they are presently going through under the PDP led government in the state.

“The People Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Party (APC) have nothing new to offer Nigerians,” she said.

According to her, sir Nwachukwu is on a rescue mission to their constituency.

She said that the constituency cannot afford to witness another set of bad leadership in 2023.

Gbaruko also added that the YPP candidate has exhibited much integrity, courage, capability and honesty for the suffering people of the area as well as a desire to take his constituency out of its present woes.

In his response, sir Nwachukwu thanked the women for their resolve to support his candidature and the party in general.

“I sincerely appreciate you all for standing up at this very crucial time which is key for a better tomorrow,’’ he said.

He, however, likened their roles as that displayed in the Holy Bible by Esther and Deborah.

Sir Nwachukwu lamented on the rising levels of poverty and hunger in the society, attributing the situation to bad leadership.

He added that their votes in the forthcoming general elections would result in the election of credible individuals for their constituency.

“The good old days will surely be brought back with the emergence of the right candidates,’’ he added.

He promised that he would always interface with the women from time to time, promising to provide all that they would need to successfully carry out their plans.
