Awka, April 4, 2024 -The Anambra Beach Soccer Association (ASBSA) says it will float a Beach Soccer league in the state in no distant time.

Emmanuel Nsoedo, secretary of ASBSA said this while addressing the Moonshine Residents Headquarters of the association in Nnewi on Thursday.

Nsoedo, who presented the Anambra Beach Soccer team popularly called Anambra Warriors, called on the state government and private sector to take interest and invest in the game.

He said the state team was ready for the first round of the Nigeria Beach Soccer League billed for Kebbi state holding between April 10 to April 13

He said Beach Soccer was becoming popular in Anambra and that the state had a standard pitch at Nnewi High School which would be capable of hosting any team from anywhere in the world.

“We are going to Kebbi state for the league to win.

“We will use sports to address the vices in society by making them positively engaged and reducing idle time,” he said.

Nsoedo said Anambra had been given the right to host the second national beach soccer competition in May this year.

He said the existence of Beach Soccer in Anambra was completely private sector driven, adding that government support would grow the game and make players in the state enjoy the opportunities.

“We plan to float the Anambra beach soccer league soon because we need competition to bring the best out of our boys.

“As part of our developmental programmes, we are going to take Beach Soccer to primary and secondary schools, though we are not getting a fair share of government funding for now,” he said.
