A 30-year-old cook, Chibuzor Anasi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Upper Area court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly threatening to kill his neighbours.
Anasi who resides at Jikwoyi, Abuja, is being charged with criminal intimidation, breach of trust, cheating and mischief.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the matter was reported at the Kurudu divisional Police Headquarters by a resident, Felix Anasi.
He said that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 12.
Adeyanju said that Anasi collected the sum of N150,000 from someone with the pretext of subletting his room to him.
”Meanwhile the room in question is not vacant, it is already occupied by a tenant, named Nkemjika Felix.
”When his neighbours reacted against his actions, he threatened to kill them. In the process, he broke a window glass valued N60, 000,” he said.
The prosecutor said that during an investigation, the defendant repeated the threats alleged by the complainant.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 397b, 312, 322 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Judge, Umar Mayana, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He further ordered that the address of the surety must be verified by an officer of the court.
The judge also ordered the defendant to write an undertaking to maintain peace in the compound or face the wrath of the court.
He thereafter adjourned the case until March 16 for mention.
