The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council has benefitted from the ongoing scheme of the Nigerian Government to cushion the effect of economic hardship.

Three hundred (300) Journalists in Lagos State purchased the Federal Government subsidised rice being coordinated by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Speaking in Lagos, Mr Adeleye Ajayi, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lagos Council, commended the initiative.

“This is a step in the right direction by the Nigerian government but there’s need to move fast so that Nigerians can enjoy the dividends of Democracy.

“Food is one of the basics of life, and as such, the citizenry must equally have access to food at affordable prices.

” If other countries are doing it right, then Nigeria can also get it right” Ajayi revealed.

According to him, we are all aware of the hardship presently steering at us in the face as a nation, but we are hopeful that Nigeria’s economy will bounce back soon.

Ajayi equally lauded efforts of the hierarchy of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) ably led by the Comptroller-General, Mr Wale Adeniyi, for extending such opportunity to Lagos journalists.

“I salute the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr Wale Adenyi, a brother and a friend for making Journalists beneficiaries of this laudable project.

“Lagos Journalists will continue to uphold the pen profession in high esteem and we shall continue to effectively partner with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS),” the NUJ Chairman said.

It is on record that following the Presidential directive on the need to reduce high cost of foods, many homes have benefitted from the Nigeria Customs Service rice sale until the exercise was recently suspended to re-strategise and find better modus operandi for a seamless process.
