
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged the new President of the Lagos State Public Service Club, Mr Olukayode Odunuga, to build lasting legacy through innovation and strategic alliance.
Sanwo-Olu represented by Mr Bode Agoro, the Head of Service, Lagos State, said this at the inauguration ceremony of Odunuga as the 24th president of the club on Friday in Lagos.
He urged the new president and his team to embrace innovation and collaboration to put the club on a global map.
“Remain motivated and effective in your duties. To our newly inaugurated executive council members, your election today is both an honour and a sacred trust.
“As you take your oath, you are not just assuming office or accepting a covenant with every member here present, I charge you all to let innovation be the compass that guides your tenure,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu urged them to honour the established exisitng legacy, while building new ones for the future.
“To the outgoing executive council members, I express my deep appreciation for your selfless service. Every proud member of the club trusts that your legacy will continue to inspire others.
“The state government will always support initiatives that promote a vibrant, efficient, and motivated public service that will continue to build a Lagos that thrives on the dedication and excellence of its workforce,” he said.
The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Kensington Adebutu, Asoju Oba of Lagos, urged Odunuga to try his best to be at the level of the past administration.
Adebutu, represented by Mr Owoseye Shonuga, expressed optimism that the new president would surpass the achievements of the past administration.
“When I entered this place today, I thought I was dreaming. I appreciate Mr Governor for being kind to the club, also the past presidents and their executives for a good job, well done,” he said.
Mr Adeniyi Oloko, the immediate past president of the club, urged everyone to join the club and take advantage of its facilities.
“Health is wealth and so there is a need for people to come out and take advantage of the sporting facilities in the club,” he said.
Earlier, Odunuga pledged to foster unity, promote social and professional networking and enhance the overall well-being of members through innovative initiatives and infrastructural improvements.
“Our goal is to create a dynamic and inclusive space where every member feels valued and empowered.
“My vision is a united, inclusive and progressive club, celebrating diversity and collaboration. We will harness our differences to drive innovation and growth and this will be done with fellow executive members,” he said.
He sought the support of the Head of Service to provide the club with a utility bus and employment of clerical staff to safeguard its mother club at Ikeja, Epe and Badagry.
He said the club had embarked on some key projects including the modernisation of its facilities, introduction of digital platforms for improved engagement and expansion of the recreational and professional development programme.
The club was established in September 1979 to provide a forum for social and sporting activities among officials of the state public service and the general public.
The Lagos State Public Service Club at the moment has over 6,000 members
