Governor Francis Nwufuru of Ebonyi has informed vice chairmen of Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state that their positions are like spare tyres inside the boot of vehicles.
Nwifuru made the disclosure in Abakaliki while swearing in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 13 LGAs of the state.
The governor told the vice chairmen to remember that it is only when the tyre refuses to function or collapse irreversibly that they can function.
“You should always be available to the chairmen and ask them of the your LGA’s daily activities.
“Do not listen to gossip and wrong advice from your friends against your chairmen as such will destroy your relationship with your chairmen.
He noted that the state’s deputy governor for instance was a former LGA chairman and nobody knew she will be a deputy governor now.
“She performed in ways people saw her and believe could do the work of a deputy governor.
“My deputy is doing the work perfectly and enjoying the position,”
Nwifuru enjoined the LGA chairmen to do all within thier powers to deliver the All Progressives Congress (APC) 100 per cent in the 2027 general elections.
“Any chairman who fails to win his council will be removed from office and be replaced with a councillor.
“I want this information to be on the headlines of newspapers because as politicians, we woud not speak in secret.
“The chairmen know we would win in the state and if they like, let them sleep and allow others take their seats, we would remove them,”.
He urged the chairmen not to allow the opposition thrive in their areas because “charity begins from home”.
The re-elected Chairman of Afikpo LGA, Chief Timothy Nwachi thanked the governor and stakeholders of the party for the opportunity given to them to serve the people.
“We pledge to justify the confidence reposed in us and especially ensure that the APC records landslide victory in the 2027 general elections
The new chairmen include Osborne, Chairman of Ohaozara LGA and Son of the Minister of Works, Senator. David Umahi.
