Medics attending to Agbede

Abakaliki, Nigeria – One person, identified as a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Damian Agbede, has been reported dead at Ebonyi half marathon race on Saturday.

Sources close to the organizers said that Agbede fainted a kilometer into the race precisely at Ishieke, Ebonyi local government area (LGA) of the state.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he gave up the ghost.

According to sources, Agbede, a serving corps member in Ebonyi, hailed from Benue state.

“Efforts to revive Agbede, 27, when he slumped during the race proved abortive. He was rushed to the Accident and Emergency medical unit where he was confirmed dead,” the sources stated.

Attempts to get a reaction from the Coordinator of the NYSC in the state, Mrs Foluke Oladehinde, were fruitless as she did not pick her calls.
