Governor Dauda Lawal will on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, unveil newly acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and a modern surveillance drone system to strengthen security in Zamfara State.
The move, however, comes at a time when residents continue to demand urgent action against banditry and violent attacks. Therefore, expectations are high.
Fresh Push Against Insecurity in Zamfara
In a statement released by the Governorโs Director General of Media and Communications, Nuhu Salihu described the launch as a key milestone in the stateโs broader security strategy.
Meanwhile, Nigeriaโs Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, will lead the ceremony. The statement noted that the advanced security assets were procured under his leadership.
The government says the APCs will strengthen ground operations. In addition, the surveillance drones will improve intelligence gathering and support rapid response to threats. As a result, security agencies can act faster and more precisely.

Technology as a Security Game Changer?
The Zamfara government insists that this is not just about buying equipment. Instead, it says the investment reflects a deliberate strategy to use modern technology to protect lives and property.
For example, surveillance drones can monitor remote forests where bandits often hide. They can also track suspicious movements in real time. Therefore, security forces can plan better operations.
However, critics argue that equipment alone will not end insecurity. They say the state must also strengthen local intelligence, improve coordination with federal forces, and address poverty, which fuels crime.
On the other hand, supporters believe the deployment of drones and APCs sends a strong signal. They argue that visible state action restores public confidence and deters criminals.
Hope, But Pressure Remains
Zamfara has faced years of deadly attacks and kidnappings. As a result, residents now judge leaders by concrete action, not promises.
Governor Lawalโs administration has chosen technology and strategic investment as its response. Meanwhile, citizens will watch closely to see if the new security assets reduce attacks in the coming months.
The unveiling may mark a new chapter in Zamfaraโs security fight. However, the real test will come on the ground. Nigerians will ask a simple question: will these drones and armoured vehicles finally bring peace?
